Influence de la lyophilisation sur la structure d'une argile sensible du Quebec

P. Delage, and F. M. Pellerin

Ec. Mines, Cent. Geol. Ing., Paris, France

The structure was investigated using mercury intrusion porosimetry and scanning electron microscopy on a freeze-fractured sample. An aggregated structure containing two pore populations was observed. Ice crystallization appeared to affect preferentially the points of weakness of the structure, which comprised inter-aggregate bridges formed by accumulations of clay platelets.
